Complete, and intact, some areas of discoloration. Characters are clearly legible. Translated by Renee Kovacs. Height: 1 7/8 in (4.5 cm). From either Umma or Girsu in Southern Meopotamia. IIIrd Dynasty of Ur (2112-2004), 5th year of the reign of Shu-Suen, ca. 2033 BC.
Shu-Suen (or Shu-Sin) was one of two sons of Shulgi (2094-2047) to succeed him. The first, Amar-Sin, reigned from 2046 to 2038. Shu-Suen ruled after his brother from 2037 to 2029. His reign marked the decline of the Third Dynasty of Ur. It was during the fifth year of his reign that he built a wall between the Tigris and the Euphrates in an attempt to keep marauding tribes of Amorites from the south west out. It failed and the dynasty collapsed under the reign of his son, Ibbi-Sin.
